Cabinet Care
A little maintenance goes a long way. These quick tips will help you keep your cabinets looking great for years to come.
Dust With Care
Use a soft microfiber or cotton cloth to dust along the grain. Wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid paper towels and feather dusters—they can scratch or just push dust around.
Clean Gently
For everyday cleaning, warm water with a drop of mild dish soap works well. If using a wood-specific product, choose one free of silicone, alcohol, and ammonia to protect our handcrafted finishes. Skip harsh chemicals like bleach or vinegar.
Keep the Environment Stable
Colorado’s dry climate makes moisture control important. Aim for 35–55% humidity and temps between 60–80°F. Keep cabinetry out of direct sunlight if possible and away from heat sources to prevent fading or drying.
Handle Spills Quickly
Blot spills right away to avoid stains or swelling. For sticky spots, use a gentle soap-and-water solution and dry thoroughly. Coasters, placemats, and trivets help protect surfaces from heat and moisture.
Polish Sparingly
If you are looking for a shine, a light application of high-quality wood polish or conditioner once or twice a year is enough. Use a small amount, follow the grain, and avoid buildup.
Maintain Hardware
Check hinges and handles occasionally to keep them snug and aligned. Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. A touch of silicone-based lubricant can quiet squeaks without harming the wood.
Appreciate the Natural Aging
Your cabinetry will deepen in color and character as it ages—one of the beautiful qualities of fine, handcrafted woodwork.
